On Wednesday, March 18, the Rotary Club of Chestermere participated in a Build Day led by Habit for Humanity Southern Alberta group. The day was a success with work done, friends made, understandings achieved, and a move forward with affordable housing.
On Wednesday, March 18, the Rotary Club of Chestermere traded our business casual for tool belts and steel-toed boots. We headed down to Dawson Dock Road to join Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta for a day of sweat equity and community building.
The Impact The turnout was incredible. Under the guidance of Dustin and Trish from Habitat—and a patient crew of leaders—we learned that there is a true art to the nail gun and a specific satisfaction in seeing a wall frame rise and stay secure. We weren't just "volunteers"; we were part of a precision team.

Beyond the Build Between the tasty sandwiches and the hard work, we gained a deep appreciation for the Habitat model. Unlike traditional charity, Habitat empowers clients through a managed mortgage and a requirement for volunteer hours. This ensures that every dollar received from homeowners is recycled directly into the next build. It is a sustainable cycle of dignity and housing security, with land being the only debt-hurdle the organization carries.
